Give Respect - Get Respect 2013-14

2013-14 Give Respect ~ Get Respect Challenge
The Halton District School Board is very pleased to once again partner with the Halton Regional Police Service, Halton Region, Halton Catholic District School Board and Independent Schools in Halton to support and promote the 2013-14 Give Respect ~ Get Respect Challenge. This challenge aims to spread the message of respect and healthy relationships, inviting all Halton students to "Join the movement!" We encourage all schools to consider making Give Respect ~ Get Respect an integral part of your preventative actions to promote healthy relationships and inclusion, and stop bullying behaviours in your school.

This year, students in grades six to twelve are invited to develop creative arts-based public service messages that communicate the theme, ‘Give Respect, Get Respect’, promoting healthy relationships and inclusion to prevent bullying.

Information regarding the details of this year’s challenge is available through the Halton Regional Police Service's website under the Community Policing tab, and myHDSB under Safe and Inclusive Schools, Conferences and Give Respect Get Respect. School entries must be submitted by Thursday March 6, 2014 at 4:00pm.  The HRPS website now includes all past winning submissions for you to access as you promote the challenge, and bullying awareness and prevention.

*** Bullying Prevention Ideas for the Classroom ***

Attention TEACHERS!

If you're looking to introduce bullying as a topic of class discussion, check out the Stop Bullying Comic Challenge! These bullying prevention activities will give your students a new and creative way to think about an issue that affects all of them but that they're not always excited to talk about.

The activities cover a wide range of bullying scenarios, and it's up to students to show how they would resolve them.

At the end of March, an anthology featuring 20 favourite student comics will be created - a downloadable bullying prevention comic book, for students and by students!

To enter your class in the Comic Challenge:

- assign one of our bullying prevention activities

- add finished comics to your class gallery

- share your gallery with parents and other classrooms by making it publicly viewable
